Evaluate Your Potential Savings with Our Energy Savings Calculator
As energy efficiency becomes a major concern, Delta Transformers has developed an innovative tool to help businesses optimize their energy consumption: the Energy Savings Calculator. In our latest webinar, we introduced this tool, designed to assess the impact of transformers on energy costs and identify opportunities for optimization.

Why an Energy Savings Calculator?
Transformers play a key role in energy management, but their performance varies depending on their design and year of manufacture. With evolving regulations, it is crucial to evaluate the efficiency of each piece of equipment based on current standards.
Our calculator helps businesses:
- Compare transformer performance based on their manufacturing date
- Estimate energy losses and their real cost over several years
- Calculate potential savings by upgrading to newer, more efficient models
- Generate detailed reports in PDF or Excel to facilitate analysis and decision-making
A Tool Based on Strict Regulations
Transformer energy efficiency is regulated by NRCan (Natural Resources Canada) and has been harmonized with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) standards since 2016. Since 2019, Canadian and U.S. requirements have been aligned, ensuring high efficiency standards.
Provinces such as Quebec and Ontario also enforce specific regulations, requiring manufacturers to meet minimum efficiency thresholds for their products.
How Does the Energy Savings Calculator Work?
The tool considers several key parameters:
- Transformer power rating (from 15 to 300 kVA)
- Material type (copper or aluminum)
- Average load level, which directly impacts losses
- Cost per kWh
- Number of operating hours and days per year
A simulation conducted during the webinar demonstrated that replacing a transformer manufactured before 2012 with a model that meets current standards can generate up to 24,000 $ in savings over its lifetime.
A Direct Impact on Profitability and Reliability
Beyond financial savings, investing in a more efficient transformer offers several advantages:
- Reduced heat generation, easing the load on electrical room cooling systems
- Improved reliability, preventing costly breakdowns
- Optimized energy use, minimizing unnecessary losses
