Encapsulated transformers, also known as epoxy-potted transformers, operate in harsh and humid conditions where general-purpose ventilated dry-type transformers are not suitable. The core and coils are encapsulated in a mixture of silica granules and resin compounds to prevent moisture and airborne contaminants from coming into contact with the transformer, and to eliminate corrosion and deterioration. Typically used in harsh environments such as the marine, petrochemical, mining and industrial sectors.
